Learn to Make the Most of Your Money During Money Smart Week April 3-12; Big Read Edible Books Festival April 4

Who couldn’t use a little help protecting their hard-earned cash? That’s the spirit behind the library’s annual series, Money Smart Week, running April 3 through April 12 at various sites.
Bankers, consumer experts – and even a chef – have cooked up a full plate of programs targeted to children, teens and adults and their unique money issues. Get helpful tips from staff of BancorpSouth, Better Business Bureau, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Empire Bank, Great Southern Bank, Hy-Vee, Missouri Career Center, Ozarks Elder Law and the library district.
Money Smart week is a national campaign to help consumers better manage their finances. It’s a partnership of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the American Library Association and the library district.
Get a copy of your credit report and learn how to improve it at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, in the Library Station Frisco Room. Senior adults can learn to recognize common financial scams at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the South Side Senor Center. Get a primer on estate planning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at the Library Center. And drop by the Library Center auditorium at 7 p.m. Monday, April 7, to learn Simple and Delicious Cooking on a Budget with Chef Chadwick from Hy-Vee. (Registration is required for that one, call 882-0714.)

What’s better than having your cake and eating it too? Eating cake in the library, of course. The Edible Books Festival returns at 7 p.m. Friday, April 4, for all ages at the Park Central Branch Library. Professional bakers will display cakes they’ve designed for the Big Read featured title, “The Call of the Wild.” Vote for your favorite, and after the winner is announced, we all get to eat cake. Come at 6 p.m. for a demonstration of Fare of the Wild. Christine Daues, of Granolove, will demonstrate how to make wholesome trail mix.
