Celebrate the Summer Reading Program with Kick-off Activities May 24

May 12, 2014 — Saturday, May 24, begins the library’s Summer Reading Program, Fizz, Boom, READ! Children in preschool-grade 5 are invited to drop by any of the 10 library branches and pick up your game board to track your reading hours and earn prizes through Aug. 2. Children and teens can also pick up their game boards when the Mobile Library drops by your neighborhood.

These branches also have kick-off activities on Saturday, May 24, for children in preschool-grade 5.

  • Brentwood Branch, 1 p.m. Start your summer off with a bang by signing up for the Library's Summer Reading Program. Drop in to do some fun science activities in the Children's Department and pick up your game board.
  • Library Center Story Hour Room, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Drop by for some science experiments and activities, and pick up your Summer Reading Program game board for more activity ideas.
  • Library Station Story Hour Room, 1-4 p.m. Let's kick off the Summer Reading Program with a BOOM! We'll have fun crafts and activities from 1-4 p.m., but you can stop by anytime to pick up your game board, grab some books and start checking off activities.
  • Midtown Carnegie Branch, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Drop in and pick up your 2014 Summer Reading Program game board! Stick around for simple science concoctions and crafts as we get ready to "Fizz Boom and Read" our way through summer.
  • Republic Branch, 11 a.m. Kick off the Summer Reading Program carnival-style. We'll have games, activities and crafts for all.
  • Willard Branch, 11 a.m. Pick up your Summer Reading Program game board, decorate a passport and help us get the library ready for a summer of science and reading fun! We'll create science-themed decorations to transform the Children's Department into a mad scientist's lab.
