Crystal Owonubi “Peace in an Unlikely Place” Book Signing June 7 at Library Center
June 4, 2014 —
Author Crystal Owonubi will sell and sign copies of her book, “Peace in an Unlikely Place: A Story of Triumph Over Adversity” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.
The author explains, “Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse after coming out of a difficult and painful childhood, growing up with a single mother, being abused and blamed for it, and having no father figure in my life, my husband was deported to Nigeria, and I was left with nowhere to turn.”
She traveled with their 5-year-old daughter to a land she thought offered only hardships, and ended up embracing the Nigerian culture while settling in Jos, Nigeria. Putting her faith in God, they found a way to file for her husband’s visa despite the harsh immigration laws. After eight years in Nigeria, she says, “I returned to America with a different mindset and a completely different life.”
