Experts Share Wealth of Knowledge and Experience at Library Programs

We’re all about summer reading, but we invite you bookmark your page this week and take a break for some engaging programs at the libraries.
At 7 p.m. Friday, June 20, at the Library Center auditorium, award-winning freelancevideo journalist Ed Fillmer, known locally for his “Ozark Life” stories that aired on KY3, will present “A Videographer’s Tale: Ozark Life Stories.” Ed will present some of his favorite pieces, and discuss their role in preserving and promoting the culture and people of the Ozarks.

“Ultimate Cheapskate” Jeff Yeager, of NBC Today Show and TLC “Extreme Cheapskates” fame, will talk at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. His message speaks to all ages with “Finding Wholesale Happiness in a Retail World.”
Yeager delivers practical advice about money, happiness and our consumer culture, and does it with humor. He will base his talk on his best-selling book, "The Ultimate Cheapskate's Road Map to True Riches: A Practical (and Fun) Guide to Enjoying Life More by Spending Less."

A 9:30 a.m. June 25 workshop in the Library Center auditorium by the Ozarks Genealogical Society will feature KSMU Radio journalist Jennifer Davidson talking about “How to Interview Someone You Care About.” Learn tips on how to conduct an intimate family history interview, how to record that interview, and why it's an important part of genealogical preservation.

The public seems as excited as we are that people can now apply for a U.S. passport at the Library Center – no appointment required. Library staff processed 15 passport applications on the first day, June 9, alone. The service is available from 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 1-4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Please note:
- Before visiting the Library Center, consult the website travel.state.gov to know about all the required documents and fees and fill out an application. The library also has paper applications.
- The Library Center cannot process renewals – consult the website.
- All fees must be paid with a check or money order.
- The library can take passport photos for travel, school or other documents for $10, payable to the library with a check, money order or cash.
