Library Board of Trustees Approves $20.182 Million 2014-15 Budget

The Springfield-Greene County Libraries Board of Trustees approved a 2014-15 budget of $20,182,248, which includes $8.4 million for personnel and $2.35 million for books, e-books, DVDs and other lending materials.
The new budget, which goes into effect with the new fiscal year July 1, represents an increase over the $19.239 million budget approved for fiscal year 2013-14. The budget covers operation and staffing of the district’s 10 library branches, Mobile Library bookmobile and nine service vehicles.
Personnel accounts for 60 percent of the library district’s budget, and provides salaries and benefits for about 250 full-time and part-time employees.
About 88 percent of the library district’s budget is supported through Greene County property taxes. The budget projects a 2.5 percent tax revenue increase. In addition, the library expects to receive $192,587 in state aid; $254,321 in library fines and fees; $100,549 in out-of-county library membership fees; and $184,724 in grants. It also expects to receive a $97,500 grant from the Friends of the Library; Between Friends Gift Shops income of $70,000; and a Library Foundation distribution of $14,200.
Major anticipated expenses include replacement of water lines, new south steps and stained glass repairs at the Midtown Carnegie Branch, 397 E. Central St.; and replacement of two HVAC units at the Library Center, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.
