Burl Brooks Book Signing Jan. 24 at Library Center

January 14, 2015 — Local author Burl Brooks will sell and sign copies of his books, “Cinch Marks: Misadventures and Tall Tales from a Self-Described Curmudgeon” and “According to Hoyle: A Dictionary of the Old West,” from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Library Center concourse, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.

In “Cinch Marks,” Brooks uses short stories and poetry to convey his experiences growing up in rural Missouri and as a horse trainer. In “According to Hoyle,” Brooks has compiled a dictionary of terms from yesteryear, “when being called ‘all hat and no cattle’ was likely to get you shot…and if you played your cards right, it was ‘according to Hoyle.’”
