Author Talks About Negro Baseball League Feb. 28
February 9, 2015 — Phil S. Dixon, co-founder of the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City, will visit the Library Center from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Feb. 28, to talk about the Monarchs team that won the first Negro League World Series championship in 1924. The event will be in the library’s auditorium, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.
In honor of the 90th anniversary of the Monarch’s first Negro League World Series championship in 1924, award-winning author Dixon is visiting 90 cities including Springfield, where the Monarchs played African-American teams at the former White City Park.
Dixon will discuss the history of African-American ball players in the Negro Leagues through stories, colorful baseball poetry and photographs. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
