Hoopla Upgrade Makes Streaming and Downloading Titles Even Easier
March 12, 2015 —
Since the library began offering Hoopla online entertainment in 2013, 3,200 people have signed up to electronically borrow from 275,000 movies, TV episodes, audiobooks and music albums from their compatible devices.
You’re not one of the 3,200?
Your library card lets you borrow 275,000 titles from a smartphone, tablet or Web browser on a computer. The library subscribes to this lending service, by Midwest Tape, LLC., so you can access it at no charge. You can find Hoopla at thelibrary.org/digital, create a free account, browse titles and click “borrow.” Easy as that.
Content is always available and there are no late fees – content disappears when your checkout period expires.
Since Hoopla launched here, people have checked out 36,000 titles. Audiobooks are the biggest draw so far, accounting for 51.9 percent of all Hoopla checkouts. Library patrons tell us they like how easy it is to access the audiobooks.
New this month, Hoopla has upgraded the service so the content is faster, brighter and easier to use. You can borrow, stream or download popular titles 24/7 with fewer touches. You can stream or download everything in high-resolution from your smartphone, tablet, PC or Apple TV. It’s a more tailored experience, too. It offers content recommendations based on your recent Hoopla activity. You can find new content and narrow searches by genre with a Browse/Search icon. A new “resume” function means continuing playback is one click away.
If you have an existing account, please note that once the update is installed, you need to input your password the first time you launch it. Hoopla is helpful in responding to password inquiries. A note specific to iOS users with active downloaded content: The update will delete your previous downloads. These are still accessible, and only need to be re-downloaded – not re-borrowed – to enjoy offline.
We invite you to try Hoopla through the link at thelibrary.org/digital. If you checked it out once but haven’t visited in a while, we invite you to come back.
