Bargains Await You at Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale April 21-26

April 16, 2015 — Nearly five tractor-trailer loads of books, CDs, DVDs and more await you during the giant Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale April 21-26 at Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road. This year’s sale features some special collections you won’t want to miss.

Regular sale hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, April 21-24; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, Half-Price Day; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, April 26, Bag Day, when final-day shoppers pay only $1 for all the books they can shove in a sack, or $5 per sack from the better books side. The Friends can accept only cash or check with proper ID.

Early-bird alert: The popular Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 20. Friends members get in free with up-to-date membership, or pay $5 at the door, apply that to a membership that night and you’ll get into the fall preview sale in October for free.

The bargains are waiting: Adult, young adult and children’s books and most audiovisual items are priced at $1 or less. Better books from all genres are priced $2 and up. The sale features thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks for all age groups and genres; vinyl records, board games and puzzles donated by individuals or weeded from the library district’s collection.

Notable this year: The sale features 10,000 baseball cards that will be sold “by the box” for $5 to $20. Cards will not be sold separately. You’ll also find an especially large collection of sci-fi paperbacks, signed books by authors including James Patterson and Mike Huckabee, world atlases, military history books, 1800s collectibles, children’s picture books and pop-up books; and 2014 and 2015 hardback fiction.

It’s a great opportunity to stock up on summer reading for all ages. Teachers and home-schoolers can load up books for their home or school libraries, and parents can find treasures for their children.

Proceeds from the sales fund the many special lectures, live concerts and capital projects you enjoy at the Springfield-Greene County Libraries.
