Friends of the Library Giant Fall Book Sale Begins Oct. 20

October 8, 2015 — Got the dates saved? The big Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale returns Tuesday-Sunday, Oct. 20-25 at the spacious Remington’s, 1655 W. Republic Road.

The essentials:

  • Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 through Saturday, Oct. 24; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, October 25. The Friends extended Saturday hours to 8 p.m., giving shoppers three extra hours to browse and buy.
  • Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19. Friends are admitted free with a valid membership card; others may pay $5 to shop that night and apply that to a membership that night.
  • The Friends can accept cash or check only for sale purchases.
  • The sale features like-new books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, vinyl records, games and puzzles. Items are $1 for adult, young adult, children’s books and most audiovisual items; and $2 and up for better books, autographed copies and rare books.

We say it’s the biggest and best used book sale in the region, and Friends Book Sale veterans like Pat Mithelavage know what we mean. Pat is adjunct/student teacher supervisor at College of the Ozarks, and urges educators to stock their libraries.

“At last spring‘s sale I purchased over 100 books for less than $42. On campus, a student worker calculated their original value and it totaled just over $452. These books were all in excellent shape, some brand new. I found books for all grade levels, genre and academic subject-specific. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for any educator. Shop by yourself or drop hints to mom and dad and grandparents about your desire to have books in your classroom!”

This sale features a wide variety of quality coffee table books – think holiday and birthday gifts – fragile collectibles and this year an abundance of genealogy-related books.

Proceeds from the Friends sales benefit the library district and you. Most recently, the Friends issued a $200,000 challenge grant to help complete the ReNew Brentwood renovation campaign. See how your donation can count twice, at yourlibraryfoundation.org.
