Library Services Now Available at Mercy's Van K. Smith Community Health Library
November 5, 2015 —
If you’re one of the thousands of people who routinely visit or work on the Mercy Hospital Springfield campus, now you can access Springfield-Greene County Libraries services at the Van K. Smith Community Health Library, a free public service of Mercy Hospital Springfield.
The health library, located inside the C.H. “Chub” O’Reilly Cancer Center, 2055 S. Fremont Ave., and its professional librarians have long been a reliable, consumer- and patient-friendly resource to help people make informed health decisions and be active participants in their health care.
The partnership is a win-win for both public library cardholders and busy Mercy co-workers. Here are a few of the benefits:
- The public and Mercy co-workers can place holds on public library items online through thelibrary.org/catalog, and pick them up or drop them off at Mercy’s Van K. Smith health library. Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Public library deliveries to the health library are twice weekly.
- Springfield-Greene County Library cardholders may select "Mercy Community Health Library" as a holds-pickup location for public library materials when placing holds.
- Public library and Mercy library items may also be returned anytime to any Springfield-Greene County Library branch or drop box; in a drop slot in the lobby outside the Van K. Smith library; and at a traditional outdoor metal book drop located near the drive on the west side of the hospital.
- Mercy library co-workers can also sign up for a Springfield-Greene County Library card or out-of-county resident card at Mercy’s health library.
- Mercy co-workers can pay public library fines online at the Mercy library.
“Mercy Hospital and the public library have partnered since 2001 when Mercy libraries joined the COOLcat online catalog,” says Holly Henderson, medical library manager. “Mercy medical librarians are excited to increase this partnership and offer expanded library services to our co-workers and the public. Our co-workers work long, hard hours and we hope offering more convenient access to materials from the public library will make their work days a little easier.”
