Get in the Spirit with These Holiday Concerts

November 27, 2015 — What would the holidays be without the sounds of the season? Whether you’re looking to attend live music performances or want recorded carols for your holiday gathering, find your “fa, la, la” at the Springfield-Greene County Libraries.

Several upcoming performances will fill your ears with joyful melodies, and are suitable for all ages:

  • Saturday, Dec. 5, 11-11:50 a.m. at the Brentwood Branch. The Pershing Middle School Jazz Band Ensemble and Sonshine Performing Arts Dance Troupe will perform during the Holiday Open House.
  • Saturday, Dec. 5, 10:30 a.m. at the Library Center. Kick off the holiday season with a family concert by Dallas Jones during the Holiday Open House.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 9, 12:15 p.m. in the Midtown Carnegie Branch upstairs meeting room. The Springfield Symphony's Brass Quintet will perform festive holiday music at this annual concert sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Refreshments will be served.
  • Bluegrass band Wires On Wood will include holiday favorites in their performances: Saturday, Dec. 12, 4:30 p.m. at the Brentwood Branch, and Sunday, Dec. 13, 2 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium. Both concerts are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 16, noon at the Midtown Carnegie Branch. Enjoy light refreshments on the first floor while the Courthouse Chorale performs holiday favorites on the balcony.

The library can also help with recorded music, from traditional carols to holiday albums by today’s hottest stars. It’s easy to find holiday CDs in the library catalog. From coolcat.org, look for the Category Searches box and select Music CDs, find Holiday in the genre list on the next page and browse more than 550 items for your favorites.

If you’re looking for holiday music for kids, select Children’s Music from the genre list and pick from the list of sub-genres including Christmas and Hanukkah.
If streaming music is more your thing, use your library card to access Hoopla’s Christmas music selection and browse by genre or collection. To get started, visit thelibrary.org/digital.
