Brentwood Branch Library Closes April 16; Temporary Site Opens May 3

April 14, 2016 — Fans of the Brentwood Branch Library have a lot to look forward to when renovations are completed by late 2016: a drive-up window, an expanded reading room, secure children’s area, new teen space, more outlets for electronic devices, a top-notch heating and air system, more customer parking – you get the picture.

Now if you will, hold onto that image, because the Brentwood Branch will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, to make way for the massive renovation.

However, the south entrance and community room will be accessible from April 18-28 for scheduled meetings and programs. One of those is an unusual Brown Bag Travelogue at noon, April 20. As part of the Big Read celebration, fashion historian Nancy Farris-Thee will talk about the late 19th century clothing styles in the time of the featured title, “True Grit.”

After Saturday, you’ll still have nine other branches across Greene County to visit, but Brentwood patrons are fiercely loyal. They come from 12 zip codes, many are third-generation users, and they are book fiends. Brentwood is one of the smaller branches, but checkouts make its circulation the third-highest of the 10 libraries.

To console those displaced Brentwood lovers, the temporary Brentwood – how does “Tempwood” strike you? – will open at 10:30 a.m. on May 3 in the Brentwood Center across from Battlefield Mall. It’s at 2720 S. Glenstone Ave., Pick up a flier at the Brentwood Branch for more details, or call 883-1974.

In the interim, drop by the “old” Brentwood on April 23 to say goodbye and have some fun: Buy a piece of Brentwood furniture from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and enjoy open house activities from 1-3 p.m.

Still looking for a way to help the campaign? Tickets are still available for Hard Hats & Highballs, an adult fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. April 23 at Brentwood. We’ll have adult beverages, appetizers, music, a wine raffle and other attractions. Tickets are $50 and available at Brentwood or by calling Valerie at 616-0586.
