Sign Up for a Summer of Reading, Programs and Prizes
May 18, 2016 — It's finally here! The Summer Reading Program has a jam-packed lineup of crazy and fun events all summer that encourage you get those muscles moving while you Exercise Your Mind. READ!
There's a reading program with activities and prizes for all ages -- Tiny Tots, kids, teens and adults. Sign up at any library branch or the Mobile Library, or enter online at thelibrary.org/exerciseyourmind.
Now through Aug. 6, read and reap your rewards: books, that famous Food 'n' Fun Flipcard of free and discounted treats and Springfield attractions, gift baskets and a Kindle Fire. Be sure to join us for shows by Oh My Gosh Josh, Babaloo and Mr. Stinky Feet. Ice skate at Mediacom Ice Park. Teens can get in on Cosplay Prom and Coffee House Teen Night. For adults and families, get it on Fantastic Fridays in the great outdoors of the Nature Center, Watershed Center and Botanical Center, and stroll through Springfield parks to "read" books along our new StoryWalks.

Beginning May 21 and after, you can sign up for a program geared to any age group. Each age level – even adults – offers suggested activities, fun events to attend, incentives for reaching reading goals and drawings for prizes.
Here’s how to get involved!
- Tiny Tots from birth-18 months: Parents can visit thelibrary.org/exerciseyour mind, register your Tiny Tot and download an activity game board, or pick up one at any library branch. Complete five activities and earn a board book for your baby. Complete five more activities for another board book and be entered into a drawing to win a Tiny Tots bag filled with books and other goodies. When you finish your game board, ask your librarian for a Tiny Tots Eager Reader Challenge form.
- Kids from 19 months-grade 5: Stop by your nearest library branch or the Mobile Library to pick up an official game board. Read and complete the activities to win a book, a Fine Waiver Card and a Food ‘n’ Fun Flipcard of free or discounted food and attractions. When you finish your game board, take the Eager Reader Challenge. Ask your librarian for an Eager Reader Challenge form. Complete the form and be entered into drawings for more end-of-summer prizes!
- ‘Tweens & Teens in grades 6-12: Read five hours and receive a Food ‘n’ Fun Flipcard Read five more hours and receive a Free Book and a Fresh Start Fine Waiver Card Keep reading to be entered into drawings for other great prizes, like Barnes & Noble and Amazon gift cards. The more you read, the more chances you have to win!
- Adults: Log on to thelibrary.org/exerciseyourmind and click on Adults to register. Log your books and post reviews there, or log your registration and books on forms at any library checkout desk. Once you have entered five books, you will receive a small gift. Each book you read and each review you post counts as an entry in the August 13 prize drawings. One winner at each branch will receive a gift basket. Two people in the Library District will receive a grand prize – a Kindle Fire. Every book and review counts as a drawing entry.
