It's a Summer Reading Send-off!

August 1, 2016 — We’ve made it to the end of the 2016 Summer Reading Program, and it’s time to celebrate!

Tiny tots, kids and teens – be sure to pick up all those great prizes you earned by Saturday, Aug. 6, at your neighborhood library.

Adults who logged the books they read all summer have until Aug. 6 to submit your book titles to thelibrary.org/exerciseyourmind. Those who were adventurous this summer and took the Library’s first Geocache Dash, have until Aug. 6 to turn in your geocache cards to any library branch. Then wait for the call on Aug. 13 – you may be one of the winners of the branch gift basket for bookies, or for one of two Kindle Fires.

But wait – there’s more!

• End-of-Summer Reading Art Gallery Reception, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in the Library Center Story Hour Room. Be sure to drop by anytime and enjoy the artwork created by young readers during the Summer Reading Program.

• Cosplay Prom for grades 6-12, from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in the Library Station Frisco Room. “Cosplay” is costume play -- the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book or video game. Grab your friends, put on your favorite cosplay and bring our geeky spirit to the 2016 Cosplay Prom. Request songs and enter into our costume contest for a chance to be crowned the Cosplay King or Queen! To register call 865-1340.

• Cindy Woolf and Mark Bilyeu – The Creek Rocks – in concert, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Library Center auditorium. The singers/songwriters are an Ozarks old-time/folk duo influenced by greats Jimmy Driftwood and Grandpa Jones. The concert is an end-of-summer celebration and part of the AARP Passport to an Active Summer. The program is a collaboration of AARP, the Library and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Registration is underway; call AARP at 1-877-926-8300 or go to aarp.cvent.com/thecreekrocks.
