Traveling Exhibit and Programs Capture Alexander Hamilton’s Legacy

August 2, 2016 — The real Alexander Hamilton wasn’t the rapper of Broadway’s famed musical, but he stirred things up in his day, just the same.

See why he’s called “The Man Who Made America Modern,” in an exhibit from Aug. 8-Sept. 4 at the Library Center.

This traveling exhibit examines Hamilton’s central role during the Revolutionary War and Founding period of 1774-1804 in creating the economic, constitutional, social, journalistic, political and foreign policy templates for modern America.

The exhibit is on loan from the Gildern Lehrman Institute of American History.

Learn about Hamilton’s life and why the current Broadway musical resonates with so many people during two special events:

  • Alexander Hamilton: The Man Behind the Musical at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, in the Library Center auditorium for grade 6-adults. History teacher Andy Thompson will talk about Hamilton's life, his work and why his vision for America endures today.
  • Why “Hamilton,” Why Now? at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, in the Library Center auditorium for adults. Listen to songs from the musical, then a panel of area educators and performers will discuss the musical’s relevance. Soundtrack includes explicit lyrics.
