Geek Out at LibraryCon at the Library Center Aug. 27

August 3, 2016 —    Celebrate your fandoms and geekiness with panels, games, geeky storytime, special guests and more during our second annual LibraryCon from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Library Center. It’s a family-friendly event and all ages are invited to come, enjoy and come in your geeky best to cosplay. For details call 882-0714.

     From 11 a.m.-5 p.m., we’ll have Open Gaming in the Story Hour Room, with the Springfield, Mo., Pathfinder Society and 417 Gamers. 

     Get in on giveaways and prizes! Stop at the Library table to register for hourly giveaways of free books and comic swag. Help test out the Bluubeam technology at the Library and be entered into a prize drawing. Get details at the Library table during LibraryCon.

     Here’s the schedule of events.
     We’re geeking out because it’s the 50th anniversary of Star Trek! Some sessions will start with a short Trek Talk by a member of the LibraryCon Team who will share what being a Trekkie means to them.
     11 a.m. – Fandom Starts Early Geeky Storytime, Story Hour Room. Geek out as a family in a storytime especially for little ones of Geeky Parents!
     Noon – Geeky Reads, auditorium. Geeky Librarians share their favorite novels, comics, manga and more. Participants will be eligible to win free books! Trek Talk with Alyssa Tabor.
     1 p.m. – Illustrator Panel, auditorium. Hear local illustrators discuss their craft, the comic business, and conduct a Q&A. Panelists: Adam McLaughlin, David Faught, Kristina Murdaugh,Nate Howard and Ryan Wheaton. Trek Talk with Trint Williams.
     1:30 p.m. – Game of Thrones Fan Discussion, Harrison Room. Andy Thompson and Mike Carroll discuss the recent season; share your theories about what will happen next and who belongs on the Iron Throne.
     2 p.m. – Author Panel. Our authors will discuss the glory and the agony of writing and publishing, and answer your questions. Panelists: Bethany Hagen, Sarah Jude, Brian Katcher, EM Ervin and Holly Messinger. Trek Talk with Chad Clardie.
     2:30 p.m. – Draw Along with an Illustrator, outside the Story Hour Room. Illustrators Nate Howard and Adam McLaughlin demonstrate how to draw and help you create a work of art.
     3 p.m. – Graphic Novels and Comics. How can you use comics in the classroom? What’s trending? Panelists: Jenny Ertl, Chris Wilson and Josh Roberts and Sarah Bean  Thompson. Trek Talk with Marc Allie.
     4 p.m. – Cosplay Panel. Learn how to get started in cosplay, where to get support and tips, and see some amazing creations! Guests are Brandon Lauthern, Eternal Armory, Midwest Cosplay; Anna Colston, solo cosplayer; Felicia Livingston, Midwest Cosplay; Springfield Cosplay; Lucas Corley as Jack Sparrow; and Toni Globis, Steampunk. Trek Talk with Sarah Bean Thompson.
     5 p.m. – Teen Cosplay Fashion Show, auditorium. Show off your cosplay skills to a panel of experts and the LibraryCon audience in a teens-only fashion show! Afterwards, get tips for creating and improving teen cosplay creations.
