Sept. 24 Music & Lyrics Workshop Provides Inspiration and Education

September 15, 2016 — Calling all aspiring songwriters and musicians! The only thing between you and your Big Break just may be the day-long Music & Lyrics Workshop 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Library Center.

Enjoy sessions and performances by some of your favorite area musicians and lyricists including Chris Albert from Techs and the Roadies; Shannon Stine of The Shandies; Jody Bilyeu from Big Smith; brothers Jason and Justin Kearby and Kevin Schneider from Thee Fine Lines; and Dave Painter of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and the Bluesberries.

Tom Sharpe, drummer for Grammy Award-winning Mannheim Steamroller, will give a master class – a "behind the music" demonstration of various musical techniques, polyrhythms and coordination used to create his unique sound, and discuss his life as a touring performing artist. A veteran musician, composer and performing artist, Tom is also principal performer and artistic director of the Sharpe World Music Ensemble.

Sponsored by the Library Foundation, the workshop will combine inspiration and craft for a day of entertaining and educational breakout sessions tailored to composers and performers of all skill levels and musical genres. Sessions will include tips on song and lyric writing, information about copyright law, recording and distributing albums, touring, promotion and more.

Visit with vendors, professional performers and educators between sessions in the Library Center concourse for more information that can enhance your success in writing and performing in the music industry.

Fee for this all-day event for age 14-adult is $75 and includes lunch. Seating is limited. Pick up a registration form at any library branch, download the form from yourlibraryfoundation.org, or call the Library Foundation office at 417-616-0586. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Library Foundation.

As an added bonus, Tom Sharpe will return on Sept. 25 for a free concert, Tom Sharpe: World Music that Rocks! for all ages from 2-4 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium.

Seamlessly blending genres from the Middle East, Africa, Western classical music, popular music and performance art, Tom moves between traditional instrumentation and electronics with ease and precision. The Library Foundation is sponsoring the free concert.
