OK, all you Trekkies, this is your week at the Library.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of “Star Trek,” the Library Center has two programs especially for you. (qay'be' – that’s Klingon for “You’re welcome.”)

First is “For the Love of Spock,” a documentary from 6:30-8:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in the Library Center auditorium. It’s an intimate look at the life and career of Leonard Nimoy and his alter-ego Mr. Spock, as told by his son, Adam Nimoy. The documentary is one of the highest Kickstarter-funded documentaries made so far. Nimoy died in 2015 at age 83.

Next is “Star Trek” Fandom Fest from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the Library Center meeting rooms A and B.

All ages are invited to geek out with fellow fans during games, trivia, crafts and more. Feel free to dress up as your favorite Star Trek character, and add a memory to our “Why We Love ‘Star Trek’” display.

For details about either program, call 882-0714.

A 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, program in the Library Center auditorium might be the kind of science-y stuff you’d find on Star Trek, but it’s happening here on earth.

As part of the Armchair University Science Series, Dr. Paul Schweiger of Missouri State University’s Biology Department will discuss “CRISPR – Bacterial Defense to Genomic Editing. The CRISPR/Cas9 is the gene editing technique used to fight diseases and enhance agriculture. He will also discuss the ethical issues of the new technique.
