At the Library: End-of-Life Matters, InstantFlix and Finley River Boys Concert

October 6, 2016 — Library columns that appear weekly elsewhere on this page have been featuring the keynote speakers for a major series throughout October, “Death & Dying: Conversations on End-of-Life Matters.” It’s a rare lineup of nationally recognized authors and insiders.

The series begins with two programs Oct. 11 and 12 with two critical topics. Talking with Children About Death and Grief, 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in Library Center meeting rooms A and B, features Dr. Karen Scott, director of program development at Lost & Found Grief Center. End-of-Life Legal Issues from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Library Center auditorium will feature a panel of attorneys addressing audience questions about the legal aspects.

Exhibits play a role in the series, too, especially one now through November in the Library Center Local History & Genealogy Department. “Mourning in the Midwest: Living with Death During the Victorian Era features photographs and stories about some antiquated, somewhat peculiar mourning traditions. Art and photography are also on display elsewhere in the Library Center and at the Park Central Branch Library.

As we say: “Let’s put aside the taboo of talking about death…” You can learn about the full schedule of series programs at thelibrary.org/death.
