Take a Walk this Winter and Read a Good Book!

November 21, 2016 — The whole family can shake off cabin fever this winter with a nice, brisk walk – a StoryWalk® – outside, while reading a book!

StoryWalks® are pages of actual books displayed on sign posts along the trail of a park so that families can read the book, page by page, as they walk. Special storytimes kick off each StoryWalk® stroll, and the books will stay up for at least one month.
StoryWalks® combine three important elements that promote learning: reading, moving, and enjoying the outdoors. Best of all, families can return to the trail again and again to enjoy the book!

Stroll through each of these StoryWalks® this winter!

• Tuesday, December 6, 10 a.m., Willard Trailhead of the Frisco Highline Trail, near the Willard Branch Library, for infants-age 6. Join us for a special Racing to Read Storytime at the trailhead, where we'll launch our winter StoryWalk® featuring “All You Need for a Snowman” by Alice Schertle. Co-sponsored by Ozark Greenways. Call 742-4258.

• Friday January 13, 11 a.m. at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4601 S. Nature Center Way, for infants-grade 2. This StoryWalk® will be available for reading through January at the park. Co-sponsored by the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Call 883-1974.

• Friday, February 17, 10 a.m. for infants-grade 2 in the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Join us for a special Racing to Read Storytime in the center before we move outside to launch a StoryWalk® featuring "Have You Heard the Nesting Bird?" by Rita Gray and Kenard Pak. Then we’ll walk along the trail and enjoy the book again. This StoryWalk® will be available for reading through February at the park. Co-sponsored by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. StoryWalks ® were created by Ann Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt., and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
