Holiday Store for Kids Dec. 3 at Six Branches

November 24, 2016 — A volunteer helps a child with her shopping list at the Holiday Store. Some of the most precious gifts we own are the ones a child has given us. The coffee mug with “World’s Best Dad.” The plastic picture frame around the snapshot of a smiling, gap-toothed second-grader.

Children love giving those gifts, too, especially when they can do their own shopping. The library’s annual Holiday Store for kids makes it a snap for them to do that, and the prices are kid-friendly – 25 cents to $6.

The Holiday Store returns Dec. 3, at five library branches, and from Dec. 3-11 at the Library Center. It’s open for children through age 18.

Inside each branch, the library’s Between Friends Gift Shop staff will create a store filled with items appropriate for children to buy for siblings, parents, grandparents, teachers, best friends and pets. Look for Cardinals and Chiefs logo items, mugs, picture frames, ornaments, jewelry, key chains, flashlights, ear buds, adult coloring books, die cast cars, plush animals and more.

Library volunteers help each child select items on his or her gift list, stay within a budget, then wrap and tag every gift. (Parents are welcome to help.) There’s no tax, and proceeds from the Holiday Store help fund library programs.

Stick around for the Holiday Open House at each participating library, too. Santa will be at some branches, so bring your camera.
