Lots of Light and Other Upgrades Await Patrons at Renovated Brentwood Branch Library

December 8, 2016 — An interior view of the Brentwood Branch Library renovation. The Brentwood Branch Library renovation is nearly complete, and you’ll be amazed at how bright and spacious it feels when you get to walk inside on grand opening day, Jan. 7. But why keep you in suspense?

First, you can see some early interior photos that we’ve been posting during the project on the ReNew Brentwood blog at the top of thelibrary.org home page, or at yourlibraryfoundation.org. You begin to get a sense for how large the branch looks with the open-beam ceiling.

Second, here are some details that you won’t want to miss when you visit the renamed Schweitzer Brentwood Branch for the first time.

The expanded Reading Room is flooded with natural light, a perfect place to settle into a cozy chair or share a table with a study group. A new small conference room is on one end of the reading room.

Tables there and in nearly every area of the library, in conference rooms, study rooms and a cyber bar have built-in power jacks and USB ports for all your portable devices.

Media lovers have a dedicated space to browse CDs, DVDs and audiobooks. A seating area provides space to plug in and check out your favorite tunes and movies on your portable devices. The section also includes a four-person conference room.

A drive-through lane along the building’s east side offers two time savers: A built-in book drop sends your returned materials to an automated sorting system that checks in your materials 24/7 and instantly posts returns to your account. It’s a first for the library district. Farther down is the drive-up service window – a big step saver for people with mobility issues, with kids in the car or just in a hurry.

There’s so much more: Sunday hours, expanded children’s department and adult collection, two stunning works of art by Springfield Hot Glass and an environmentally friendly design.

And we’ll keep the coffee on for you at a beverage and gift counter, Coffee Between Friends, staffed by library volunteers.
