    The star of NBC’s "30 Rock," Tina Fey was the first female head writer on "Saturday Night Live" and has blazed a trail for women in comedy. Now the Library is hosting a panel of Springfield-area comedy greats who will talk about comedy stylings and techniques in a freewheeling and funny discussion, and take questions from those who want to break into the world of comedy. Featuring Sarah Jenkins, comedy writer for "The Mystery Hour;" Daniel Newell, comedy writer/performer and keeper of Humor Journals; Kelly Goodman, who performs with a local trio of women in comedy; and Jeff Jenkins, founder of The Skinny Improv and graduate of Chicago’s I.O. Training Center. After the talk, we’ll screen some vintage "30 Rock," rated TV-14.

    How does it feel to be bullied? Or to watch someone getting picked on? Here’s a chance to express your feelings through art about how we should be treating each other. Pick up an entry form at any Library branch and use any media (paint, collage, cut paper, etc.) to create a piece of postcard art. Submit your postcard to any branch by October 20. The final pieces will be displayed on our Tumblr page and at the Brentwood Branch Library during "An Evening with Tina Meier." Winner will receive a certificate and a $20 Hobby Lobby gift card.     Tina Meier's daughter, Megan Meier, committed suicide after being bullied online. In this special event, Tina, of St. Charles County, shares Megan's story and provides an overview of the technology that students are using in today's world. Topics such as bullying, bystanders, cyberbullying and sexting will be discussed, and there will be time for questions. Families are encouraged to attend; some material discussed may be inappropriate for young children. This event will be simulcast live to the Library Center, Library Station and Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. A National Bullying Prevention Month event.

Nancy will read and talk about her writing and how her experience as a Missouri prosecutor inspired her. She’ll do a Q&A and sign and sell copies of her book.
