  • Love Your Library!
    Brentwood Branch Library
    8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. for all ages, kids and families.
    As we get ready for our branch renovation, visit the Children's Department and fill out a heart that lists all the ways you love the Brentwood Branch! We'll display your hearts throughout the month to show our love for Brentwood's past, present and future!
  • Meet and Greet Celebration
    Midtown Carnegie Branch Library
    10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for all ages.
    All ages are welcome to enjoy this diverse lineup of educational storytelling presentations that convey the legacy of "Hair-i-tage," community and culture. 10 a.m., upstairs meeting room. Q & A with Dr. Sabrina Brinson. The Diversity Fellow and professor of Childhood Education and Family Studies at Missouri State University will discuss the ways and benefits of motivating reading in the community. 11:30 a.m., Teen Room. The Nappy Hair Story "Call and Response" Tellin'… a celebration of Carolivia Herron's book "Nappy Hair." Picnic with friends and family, enjoy refreshments and a personalized art project. 1:30 p.m., upstairs meeting room. A Trip to the South. Grandma's in-home beauty salon reveals living history from Grandpa Great's barber stump to Dad's Morehouse College suitcase.
  • Back to Basics: Board Games and Coloring
    Library Center
    1-4 p.m. in the auditorium for all ages.
    Playing board games can enhance concentration, build logical thinking skills and lower blood pressure. Coloring is also a creative and relaxing way to reduce stress. Enjoy the benefits of both during this event. Coloring materials will be provided; board games provided by Board Games Warehouse.
  • "Sandy and Wayne" with Author Steve Yates
    Library Center
    2 p.m. in the meeting room B for adults.
    Springfield native and author Steve Yates revisits the Ozark Mountains as the setting of his new novella, "Sandy and Wayne." He will do a reading and discuss the book, which will be available for purchase.
  • Crafty DIY
    Library Station
    2 p.m. in the Frisco Room for adults.
    Enjoy an afternoon devoted to the joy of crafts and conversation on the first Saturday of the month. We'll design and create a new project each month. Register early due to limited seating. Materials will be provided. February craft: Recycled book heart banner from old and weeded books. Registration starts January 23; call 616-0683.
  • Old-time Know-how
    Library Station
    3 p.m. in the Santa Fe Room for adults.
    Sharpening Basics: Are your kitchen knives dull? Do your scissors tear rather than cut? Reference Librarian Shannon Wortham demonstrates the nearly lost art of tool sharpening.
  • Weekend Walk-In Theater
    Park Central Branch Library
    6:30-8:20 p.m. for age 13 and older.

  • Make It Monday

    3:15-4:30 p.m. in the Teen Room for grades 6-12.
    Spend the afternoon getting crafty in the Teen Room. We'll provide materials and snacks, you bring the creativity.
  • Not Just for Kids Picture Book Talk
    Willard Branch Library
    5:30 p.m. for all ages .
    Children's librarian Dawn McClain will share her monthly picks and explain how you can enjoy picture books as much as the kids you're reading to. Hear about new-to-you titles and suggested titles for caregivers. Adults and children welcome.
  • Starting From Seed
    Library Station
    7 p.m. in the Santa Fe Room for all ages.
    It's the time of year to start seeds for your spring gardens! Join University of Missouri Extension Horticulture Specialist Patrick Byers to learn how to successfully start plants from seed.
