Several of our upcoming programs are listed below. View all programs by branch, audience, or subject by clicking the links at left.

The south entrance and community room of the old Brentwood branch will be accessible from April 18-28 for scheduled meetings and programs. After April 28, Brentwood storytimes and other programs will be held at nearby locations. Please note the location of Brentwood programs in the program description.

  • "Dolphins at Daybreak." Learn about our amazing oceans through activities, games and more.
    Adventures in the Magic Tree House

    Ash Grove Branch Library
    9:30-11 a.m. for grades K-4.
    Travel with Jack and Annie to distant times and lands as we explore the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne. Learn about our amazing oceans through activities, games and more. Registration starts May 27; call 751-2933.
  • Racing to Read Storytime
    Midtown Carnegie Branch Library
    10 a.m. in the Children's Department for infants-age 6.
    Our interactive storytimes introduce young children to books, reading and language with stories, songs and activities. Parents learn fun ways to build the early literacy skills their children need to learn to read.
  • Racing to Read Tiny Tots Storytime
    Library Station
    10 a.m. in the Story Hour Room for infants-36 months.
    Our interactive storytimes introduce young children to books, reading and language with stories, songs and activities. Parents learn fun ways to build the early literacy skills their children need to learn to read.
  • Fantastic Friday at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield
    Offsite
    10 a.m.-noon in the Offsite for grades K-5.
    Bring the family to explore history, nature and stories. Families can explore the Interpretive Center, hear the story of the "common soldier" and enjoy campground music from the Civil War provided by Mike Anderson, the "Dulcimer Guy." Kids from ages 4-12 can complete activities to earn the National Park Service's Junior Ranger badge. Participants visiting the Mobile Library during the event can receive a free pass to visit the battlefield grounds the same day. A Summer Reading Program event.     11:15 a.m. in the Story Hour Room for infants-age 6.

  • Fabulous Friday
    Library Center
    4 p.m. in the Story Hour Room for grades 4-8.
    Join us for our special programs just for tweens! Have fun with a variety of games including "Apples to Apples," "Ticket to Ride" and "King of Tokyo."
  • Teen Friday Nights
    Library Station
    6-8 p.m. in the Frisco Room for grades 6-12.
    If it's Friday night, there's something going on at the Station just for teens. Angry Birds Live: You’ve played "Angry Birds" in 2-D, now it’s time to play it in 4-D! Using the provided supplies, create your own life-size "Angry Birds" levels to challenge yourself and your friends.

  • Summer Reading Celebration: American Kid Ninja Obstacle Course
    Park Central Branch Library
    10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for ages 3-7.
    Everybody wins at Springfield's very own American Kid Ninja Obstacle Course! Kids will walk, hop, scoot, balance and read their way through various low-impact obstacles to earn a shiny victory medal, then get their photos taken at the finish line and get started on Summer Reading Program game board activities. Stop by any time between 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. on Park Central Square (or in the children's area of the Park Central Branch in case of rain). A Summer Reading Program event.
  • STEAM Play Saturday
    Republic Branch Library
    11 a.m. in the community room for grades K-8.
    STEAM play encourages logical mathematical thinking, scientific reasoning, creative problem solving and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of these disciplines in relationship to art. We’ll supply LEGO bricks, Raspberry Pis, simple circuits and other materials – just bring your imagination!

    What do you want to be when you grow up? Juggling Jeff wasn’t born with the ability to juggle, it began with a book. Then, with some effort, focus and the help of a good mentor, Jeff learned what he needed to know to make a living as an entertainer. Join Juggling Jeff (aka Jeff Koziatek) for a comedy show about following our dreams. With the help of a mentor, effort and focus, what will you do? Get ready, get set, read!
