  • Library Center - Build a Better World on Another Planet!
    Library Center
    8:30 a.m.-9 p.m. in the Story Hour Room for grades K-6.
    A new planet has been discovered and it's up to you to colonize it! We need habitats, food, water and more. Drop by throughout the weekend to visit our planet, help us add to the space colony and see what others have made. Materials will be provided. An Explore Space event.
  • Fair Grove Branch Library - Science Saturdays
    Fair Grove Branch Library
    10 a.m.-noon for adults.
    Join us every month for beautifully filmed documentaries about our planet and its wonders. "Chimpanzee," rated G.
  • Republic Branch Library - Build-It Saturday
    Republic Branch Library
    11 a.m. in the community room for grades K-8.
    Love to build? See what you can construct at the Library using your imagination and LEGO bricks, blocks and other building materials.
  • Library Station - Intergalactic Spray Paint Art
    Library Station
    5-7 p.m. for grades 6-12.
    Join artist Taylor Hopkins in the south parking lot as he demonstrates how to make space-themed art using spray paint. Then work together to create a giant picture of outer space to display in the library. Materials will be provided. An Explore Space event.

    9:30 a.m. in the Story Hour Room for infants-12 months.
    Our interactive storytimes introduce young children to books, reading and language with stories, songs and activities. Parents learn fun ways to build the early literacy skills their children need to learn to read.
  • Midtown Carnegie Branch Library - Wiggle and Groove with Brett Johnston
    Midtown Carnegie Branch Library
    10 a.m. in the upstairs meeting room for preschool-grade 5.
    Sing, wiggle, dance and bop with local musician Brett Johnston. We'll rap and sing songs about our favorite picture books, rock out to original tunes and more. Wear your dancing shoes!
  • Library Station - Racing to Read Tiny Tots Storytime

    10 a.m. in the Story Hour Room for infants-36 months.

  • Library Center - What Does It Matter?
    Library Center
    3 p.m. in the Story Hour Room for preschool-grade 2.
    Water, steam, ice: all are the same substance, but each represents a different state. Explore fun experiments with solids, liquids and gasses with this hands-on program presented by the Discovery Center of Springfield. An Explore Space event. Registration starts July 10; call 616-0526.
  • Library Center - Learn to Play Chess
    Library Center
    6 p.m. in the meeting room B for adults.
    Exercise your brain and make new connections while you learn to play chess like a champ. Join the Springfield-Greene County Park Board Chess Club for this introductory course over five Monday evenings (no course on July 3) that covers winning strategies and tactics.
  • Library Station - Movie Monday
    Library Station
    6-8 p.m. in the Santa Fe Room for age 13-grade 12.
    Join us for a movie and popcorn every fourth Monday of the month. "Moana," rated PG.
