This is probably not the time when you want to be thinking about your home or business finances, but soon after the new year you’ll need this web page, so listen up!
The Springfield-Greene County Library’s newly updated “Minding Your Business at the Library” web page at thelibrary.org/mindbus contains in one concise package the tools and research you need to grow your business, guard your investment nest egg, manage your money and plan your retirement.
The site has links to the local business community and the broader categories of company research, databases, demographics, dictionaries, economic indicators and legal forms.
But it also has something you can’t get anywhere else: a trio of articles down the center of the page that highlights the in-depth business research experience gained by Mike DePue during the more than 26 years he has served as a business librarian.
This week, he has penned articles on the likelihood of recession and the current housing slump, what mis-managing your brand can do to your business and how protecting employees on the job benefits the bottom line.
“I see this part of the web page as an electronic bulletin board,” says DePue. “In the old days, I would notice articles that might be of benefit to our patrons and post them. Now I’m doing this on the web.”
You can also benefit from DePue’s extensive reading on the subject. Across the bottom of the page you’ll find his picks of the latest business books. Click on a title and the link will take you to COOLcat, the library’s computer catalog. You can reserve the title right on the spot and pick it up at your choice of the eight library branches or the bookmobile.
A really rich trove of information can be found by clicking on the Databases link under the Business Tools menu on the left side of the page. The databases are available from any library, home or work computer with a valid library card.
And we’re still not done with the site. Podcasts produced by local business people will be added to the page at a later date, so stay linked to DePue’s library world of business.
