A Perfect World?

If all life were cake and pleasantries,
If no one were accountable,
And suffering were unmentionable,
Would this be God’s perfect world?

If you both loved beyond measure,
But not enough to turn down temptation,
Or choose that love over a football game,
Would this be your perfect world?

If men of the cloth were believable,
And you let them use you for their own needs,
Because they told you it was God’s word,
Would this be their perfect world?

If I looked like a magazine ad,
And you understood only this veneer,
And this were enough,
Would this be my perfect world?

If all the children still went hungry,
But we didn’t have to hear,
And Mother Earth continued to be devastated,
But we didn’t have to know,
Would this be our perfect world?

If a tree falls and no one hears,
Or pain is felt but no one cares,
Does that tree or pain exist?
