To Fight a War

A young boy sits by his window,
watching men in uniform march by.
Each one a father, brother, son,
to fight a war where hope will die.

His father was one of those men,
had left home so many years ago.
Fighting for his country, family, son,
without a father, that boy had to grow.

The war seemed like it would not end,
every day countless lives were lost.
Each man a father, husband, son,
for the war to end, it would not cost.

Some day that boy would also fight,
Fight a war with no end near.
It would take a man noble, strong and brave,
this young boy, he had no fear.
