Tour the City with Your Passport to Healthy Living

Do you know how many painted light poles there are in the Moon City Creative District? Hint: They are in the Woodland Heights Neighborhood.

They’re well worth seeing. So are Springfield’s Little Free Libraries, the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library’s 3-D printer and the scarecrow at the Midtown Community Garden. They’re among two dozen Springfield sites and resources that you’re challenged to find during a summer scavenger hunt called Passport to Healthy Living.

The program runs May 26-Aug. 8, all ages can participate and each family member can have a passport.

The idea is to encourage people to explore all the free resources in the area that can help you stay mentally alert and emotionally and physically healthy. The program is sponsored by a partnership of AARP Springfield, The Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Library District, Community Partnership of the Ozarks and the City of Springfield.

It’s easy to participate: Pick up a blue passport at the sites listed below. There are 26 questions on the pages and space to write answers. Follow the clues as you explore all the local, healthy-living resources. Answer at least half of the 26 questions in your passport, return your completed passport to one of the pickup locations by Aug. 8, and be entered into a drawing on Aug. 22 for great prizes including a digital tablet – a Real Pad – provided by AARP of Springfield.

The Aug. 22 drawings will be at a celebration from 10 a.m.-noon at Mediacom Ice Park, 635 E. Trafficway. The event is free to all passport participants and their families.
Pick up your passport beginning May 26, and drop it off by Aug. 8, at any of these libraries: The Library Center, Midtown Carnegie Branch Library, Library Station and Brentwood Branch Library; or at Chesterfield Family Center, Dan Kinney Family Center, Doling Family Center, Mediacom Ice Park, Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, or the WIC Clinic.
