High School Yearbooks

The Local History Department has a large collection of yearbooks from Springfield high schools and universities and other surrounding schools. People often use the yearbooks to look up family members, connect with old friends, research a high school reunion, or to show others what you looked like in school. They can also be an excellent source of historical information and biographies.

While the department has many yearbooks, we are missing several issues in our high school collection. We have a complete set of the Parkview "Viking Log" (1957-2015) and the Glendale "Falcon" (1954-2015).

The Central High School "Resume" dates back to the early 1900's. The Library is missing the following years: 1919, 1953, 1961, 1962, 1966 and 2001.

Hillcrest "Highlighter"; missing 1963, 1966 and 2001.

Kickapoo High School "Legend"; missing 2011-2015.

Catholic High School "Irish Reflector" began in 1972, the year after the Catholic schools consolidated. The Library's collection is missing 1977, 1983 and 1984, 1990 and 1991, 1995-2015.

If you have copies of the years we are missing and would like to donate them to the Library, please call 417-616-0534 or bring them to the Local History Department at the Library Center.

The photographs in this article are from various yearbooks in the Local History Department's collection.

The top photograph is of a picnic held at Percy Cave [now known as Fantastic Caverns] from the 1910 Springfield High School yearbook. It would later become Central High School. The photograph of the girl's basketball team is from the 1912 yearbook. The interior photograph of the Barrett Drug store is from the advertising pages at the back of the 1912 yearbook. The image on the right is of unidentified service men from the 1944 yearbook.
