The Lives of Creatives

The lives of creatives are often a source of intense curiosity and perhaps even a bit of jealous longing. Everyone can create, but creating an expression that touches the deep down of a country, a generation, or populations of enduring followers requires that rare and fickle “It.”

Luckily, the Library is well stocked with a plethora of tonic salves to cool the burn of missing out on creativity's cruel lottery. Pete Townshend of The Who, David Foster Wallace, and Hunter S. Thompson are three creatives that transcended context and challenged the boundaries of their form. Take in the following items and gaze into the chaotic whirlwind lives of these creatives.

Pete Townshend of The Who is arguably the greatest composer of rock music. Ever. He conceptualized the rock opera and with the release of Tommy (1969) and Quadrophenia (1973) The Who eclipsed all others in the greatest era of rock music.

During his tumultuous career, Hunter S. Thompson upset the status quo as he prowled the waters of gonzo journalism. He is said to have been the least factual but most truthful journalist of his time. Often hilarious and always skirting the edge, Hunter S. Thompson lived the way he wrote, at full-throttle.
