Holiday Fun Begins Dec. 5 with Holiday Store and Holiday Open House Events at Seven Branches

A volunteer helps a child shop at the Holiday Store.People often tell us that the Library’s annual Holiday Store for kids and Holiday Open House are a family tradition to do with their children and grandchildren. Kids love the idea of doing their own holiday shopping for family and friends and finding gifts at prices they can afford -- 25 cents to $5.

This year there’s likely to be a Holiday Store in your neighborhood, too. Seven libraries will have a Holiday Store on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The stores return to the Library Center, Library Station and the Brentwood Branch; smaller versions of the stores open for the first time at the Midtown Carnegie, Republic, Willard and Ash Grove branches.

The Library’s Between Friends Gift Shops sponsor the Holiday Store each year. Manager Shelli Kaminski scours national markets to fill the library gift shops and the Holiday Stores with low-priced items suitable for children and teens to buy for holiday gift-giving. The sales take in $7,000 to $10,000, and it comes back to families through library programs they enjoy throughout the year – so their gifts give twice.

Save the date and bring the kids!

The seven branches are also planning family activities, movies, live music and children’s crafts and games on Dec. 5 during their Holiday Open House. Call your library to find out what’s happening there.
