Library Website Gets a Mobile-Friendly Update
The Library's website thelibrary.org got more than a facelift with a redesign that rolled out Tuesday, Oct. 3. It's mobile-friendly – now everything works and looks the same way on any device you use.
The move to mobile-friendly makes the Library that much more accessible for people who use portable devices to access the Internet. And that’s a growing number.
In a November 2016 report, Internet monitoring firm StatCounter said more users worldwide were accessing the Internet from mobile devices than from desktop computers for the first time. It said the combined traffic from mobile and tablet devices tipped the balance at 51.2 percent, vs. 48.7 percent for desktop access.
The last redesign was in 2009, and tastes have changed, as well. The new site is modern, uncluttered, with larger images; and menus are simpler for easy searches. You’ll still find the same popular features and content.
Some highlights:
- The first view of the home page includes New Titles, a Spaces link to request a meeting room reservation, a NoveList Plus link and a banner of five icons to access digital media (e-books, audiobooks, magazines) for easier selection.
- The bookshelf features multiple new titles and a link to the New Titles page. Then click your genre/format, select your title on the Encore page, and request it, review it or more.
- The home page provides links to program categories – easier to find your preferences.
- The Research resources, or databases, menus are easier to search.
