People browsing the mystery collection at the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale. Seven and one half tractor trailer loads of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks and more will be waiting for you when the doors open at the Fairgrounds E*Plex on the Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale Wednesday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 22. Parking is free on the fairgrounds at 3001 N. Grant Ave. You can enter the grounds from Norton Road.

Seven-plus loads means even more bargains. And lucky for sale shoppers, everything will be unloaded, organized and identified by category, genre, age level and price. Adult, young adult and children’s books and most audiovisuals are $1 or less; better books are $2 and up.

Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, through Saturday, Oct. 21; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. Saturday is Half-Price Day and Sunday is the ever-popular Bag Day, when everything you can stuff in a sack is $1, or $5 from the better books side. Cash or checks accepted and checkout is easy.

Friends Night Preview Sale is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17. That night only, bring your Friends of the Library membership card to get in free, or pay $5 at the door, shop all you want and you can join the Friends that night.

This is a great opportunity to stock your home library for yourself, your children or home day care. You can find great gifts for the holidays or upcoming birthdays with many like-new items. Indulge in your sci-fi or romance novel fandom for pennies on the dollar.

Besides the giant collection of paperbacks, best-sellers, cookbooks, craft and children’s books, here’s what’s “extra” this year:

The Friends return the proceeds by sponsoring Library concerts, author events, the Summer Reading program and major projects including the Mobile Library and the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library renovation.
