Plenty of Activities at the Library for Kids on Holiday Break
Youngsters got time off with nothing to do? The Library has a full lineup of holiday week programs for the young and the restless.
The branches are open normal business hours Tuesday through Dec. 31; closed Jan. 1 and open again Jan. 2 and beyond during normal business hours.
Imagination Playground: Children can visit between 8:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday in the Library Center Story Hour Room. Our playground of oversized modular blocks promote creativity and cooperation. Made possible through the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
Impromptu Inventor-noons: STEAM programs are the hot ticket in edu-tainment, and we’ve got it for grades 2-6 at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Strafford Branch Library.
Racing to Read Storytimes are offered at nearly every branch for infants-age 6. Children learn early literacy skills during our interactive storytimes with books, songs and activities. Visit thelibrary.org/kids, see a storytime brochure or call the library.
Board Up & Game On!: Especially for ‘tweens in grades 6-8, we’re hauling out the board, card and video games from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch.
Teen Friday Nights: If it’s Friday night, there’s something going on in the Library Station Frisco Room just for teens in grades 6-12 from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5.
Build-it Saturday: Kids in grades K-8 can test their construction skills with LEGO bricks, blocks and other building materials at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in the Republic Branch.
New Year’s Eve-Eve Bash: Party with the family and kids grades K-5 Saturday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. in the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch.
Just for grades 8-12, it’s a New Year's Eve-Eve Cosplay Ball from 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch. Try the escape room, dancing, trivia and more. Participants must be signed in by a guardian by 6:30 p.m. and picked up by 8 p.m. by a parent or guardian.
