"Equal Means Equal" Film, Panel Jan. 21 at Library Center
A special film screening and panel discussion on Sunday, Jan. 21, will feature the award-winning documentary “Equal Means Equal.” The event is from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium.
The 2016 film looks at an array of struggles for women stemming from an absence of explicit protections in the U.S. Constitution. Director Kamala Lopez examines real-life and precedent-setting legal cases ranging from workplace harassment and domestic violence to sexual assault and health care.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring these representatives from groups: Stacy Sherrod, Advocates of Planned Parenthood; Krista Moncado, The GLO Center; Paige Oxendine, ROSIE; and Jean Knapp from Moms Demand Action. Moderator will be Dr. Holly W. Holladay, assistant professor, Missouri State University’s Department of Media, Journalism & Film, and representing the American Association of University Women.
The free program is presented by Springfield Missouri Feminists, with co-hosts ERA NOW-Missouri, Missouri NOW, Columbia Area Missouri NOW, Capital Area Missouri NOW, NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, Greater Springfield National Women's Political Caucus and The GLO Center.
