Reading is Just the Beginning of Rewards during Libraries Rock! this Summer

If you’re like many book lovers and you have a stack of great stories on the night stand, or an unread collection on your e-reader, now’s a great time to read them and reap some rewards in the process.

Friday, May 18, is the launch of the Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is Libraries Rock! We couldn’t agree more. We’ve got summer book recommendations, inventive activities and entertainment for all ages. If you’re with the kids or grandkids this summer, this is a great boredom buster and a way to help youngsters sharpen their reading skills.

Beginning Friday, log on to thelibrary.org/librariesrock and follow the links to register for a program that fits your age, and start logging reading minutes and enter drawings for prizes.

Youngsters can pick up a game board at any library branch or Mobile Library, or register online to record your reading minutes and suggested activities. Tiny tots benefit from being read to even if they can’t read. Teens can post reviews online at thelibrary.org/librariesrock!

Tots, kids and teens can earn a free book, a Summer Youth Passport offering treats from Andy’s Frozen Custard, Chick-fil-A, Fazoli’s, Little Caesars and Mudhouse; swimming at Springfield public pools; free virtual reality game at Andy B’s Entertainment; and a free magnet and paint time at Firehouse Pottery. Upon completing the program, they get a Fresh Start Fine Waiver Card. Prizes can be picked up at any branch or the Mobile Library from May 26 through August 4.

Kids can keep reading and be entered into the end-of-summer drawings for Getaway Golf, 1984 Arcade gift cards, the chance to win a ukulele, free passes to Dickerson Park Zoo, and more!

Adults can register online or on forms at any library branch. Every book review and suggested activity adults complete counts as an entry into drawings every two weeks for “Libraries Rock” merchandise, Alamo Drafthouse tickets, Classic Rock Coffee gift cards, and more.
