Libraries Rock with Live Music Events; Library Center Collection Inaccessible Beginning June 21 During Carpet Replacement
“Libraries Rock!” is the Summer Reading Program theme, and it delivers this week with four music-related programs with adults in mind.
They kick off on Thursday, June 21, at 7 p.m., in the Library Center auditorium with The Ozarks’ Greatest Hits. Longtime radio host Wayne Glenn will talk about the recordings of the post-1900 era that helped create the Ozarks’ music industry. He’ll trace the changes in the Ozarks music scene, from the pre-Civil War era to the “Ozark Jubilee” to the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.”
The Conservatory of the Ozarks will give a Patriotic Recital from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Park Central Branch. This one’s for all ages. The conservatory students will perform patriotic songs with a variety of musical instruments and vocals in this concert celebrating America.
Sunday, June 24, is the Library Station’s 15th birthday, so staff invites all ages to celebrate from 2-4 p.m. with cake, activities and a family-friendly concert at 3 p.m. by Brett Johnston, sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Also Sunday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch, Kenny Key and Juanita Lee will perform a concert for all ages with a variety of music from some of their favorite songwriters. It’s sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Please note: A significant portion of the Library Center collection will be inaccessible beginning Thursday, June 21, and for several weeks during carpet installation. Patrons and staff won’t have access to fiction, nonfiction, mystery, biography and print reference; study and conference rooms; reference desk and the Teen area.
You will still have access to the Children’s Department, Local History & Genealogy, microfilm and reading room, DVDs and CDs, some audiobooks and large-type books, print station and some public computers, meeting rooms A and B and the auditorium. You also will be able to apply for passports.
You may also experience delays in deliveries. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you require full service at a library during that time, we encourage you to visit one of the other nine branches. As always, please call or ask a staff member if you have questions.
