New Thrillers Hit the Shelves; Recarpeting Complete at Library Center; Former Director Jewell Smith Passes

- “Give Me Your Hand” by Megan Abbott. “After an unexpected reunion, two former teenage friends have to come to terms with what led to the end of their friendship.”
- “Believe Me” by J. P. Delaney. From the author of “The Girl Before” (2017). “In this thriller, an out-of-work actor gets roped into posing as a decoy for a divorce law firm. When a client is murdered, the law firm pushes her into eliciting the woman's husband's confession.”
- “The Last Time I Lied” by Riley Sager. From the author of “Final Girls” (2017). “Three girls vanish from their cabin at a summer camp in New York. Years later the fourth girl is determined to discover what happened to the other three.”
- “Baby Teeth” by Zoje Stage. This adult thriller/horror title is the author’s debut novel. “Despite doctors' warnings, a woman risks her own life to have a baby. Now at age 7, the child refuses to speak, has been kicked out of school for constant misbehavior, and begins to lash out violently towards her mother.”

Good news for Library Center visitors: The recarpeting project that closed access to half the collection since late June is complete. The adult and teen collections, audiobooks, all public computers and meeting and study rooms are again open and accessible. Thank you to everyone for your patience during the project.

Library staff paused with many this month to honor the memory of Jewell Smith, who served as director of the library district for 10 of the 24 years she worked for the Springfield-Greene County Libraries. Jewell died July 18 at age 96. During her tenure, she also served as a leader in the Missouri Library Association and American Library Association before retiring in 1989.
