Creed Montgomery Young

“After 50 years as custodian at Lincoln School here, Creed Montgomery Young, left, has retired and one evening last week, some 50 members of the Lincoln staff and their families gathered at the school for a dinner in his honor. In this picture, Goler L. Collins, principal at Lincoln, is presenting some gifts to Mr. Young. Mr. Young, a native of Springfield, built a new home at 823 East Webster not long ago and has just finished painting it. He also does considerable carpentry work around the place since his retirement last July, he said. He is a widower. He has two daughters, Mrs. Cleo Beck, of Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Lenna Mitchell, of Kansas City, Missouri. Retirement hasn’t bothered Mr. Young, he said, except for one thing: ‘I’m so accustomed to getting up at 5 a.m. every day that I’m having a hard time breaking myself of the habit.’”
