Library Express Opens Feb. 6; Senior Socials Offered at Two Locations

Library Express West 24/7 kiosk.The newest library service in the state of Missouri opens Wednesday, Feb. 6, in our community: a 24-hour kiosk that dispenses books, movies, music CDs and audiobooks with the swipe of a library card.

The Library Express West, a freestanding kiosk, will officially open at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the parking lot of Orchard Plaza, 3872 W. Chestnut Expressway. Drop by during the grand opening and sign up for a library card if you’re a Greene County resident or property owner and try out the new convenience.

Feel free to browse the collection, or use thelibrary.org/catalog to request items be sent there for pick up by clicking on the location “Springfield-Library Express West.” As you do with other requested items, you will be notified when it’s there for you to check out.

If you haven’t already discovered the Senior Social series at the libraries, two more are coming right up. Meet other adults age 60 and older in a casual setting, hear a program and share a lunch. SeniorAge Agency on Aging and the Library’s Stories for Life project sponsor the event.

On Thursday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Library Station Frisco Room, enjoy social time and refreshments, browse materials, enjoy board games or get some computer help. The SeniorAge Choice Presenters will offer a lunch program from noon-1 p.m.  A $3.50 lunch donation to SeniorAge is encouraged. The featured program is Unleash Your Creativity with Doodling Fun. We'll provide the doodle book and all the tools you need to put your creative energies and thoughts on paper. Register by calling 616-0683.

The Senior Social moves to the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch community room on Feb. 11 at the same times, with refreshments and activities, and a lunch program featuring Crockpot Cooking. Learn great recipes, cooking on a budget and cooking for just one or two. Register by calling 883-1974.
