If You've Got Travel Plans, We Can Ease Your Passport Worries

Do you recognize yourself in these travel-related factoids released by AARP?

·         Baby Boomers are booking their international vacations earlier this year.

·         Their top international destinations for 2019: Europe, followed by the Caribbean and Latin America; then Asia and the Middle East.

·         32 percent of grandparents have ever taken their grandkids on a skip-generation trip, leaving Mom and Dad at home, and 15 percent of Boomers are already planning to do so in 2019.

If you’re one of them and need a passport, the library’s got you covered. You can apply for a U.S. passport at convenient hours, seven days a week, at the Library Center and Library Station. Library staff can help you from 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday; and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Appointments are not required. (The library does not handle passport renewals.)

Visit thelibrary.org/passport for full details. It includes links to the official website for passport information, travel.state.gov, and a link to the New Passport Checklist with information about application forms, documentation required, fees and other passport and international travel information.

The big LEGO exhibit is back through May at the Library Center after a two-year break. “Building Springfield” invites all ages to build a LEGO Springfield landmark, or anything else. How popular, you ask? In the first eight days it opened, 200 visitors came to play.

Tickets are still available for what promises to be a fun Library Foundation fundraiser – a Greek wine tasting from 7-9 p.m. Saturday MARCH 2 at The Annex By Arris Pizza, 1332 E. Republic Road. It’s for guests 21 and older, and tickets are $50 apiece.

You’ll be treated to a variety of Greek wines and their stories, appetizers and Greek dancing by the St. Thomas the Apostle Greek Festival Dancers. Word is, we’ll have a photo booth to channel your inner god or goddess. And while you’re sampling the bounty of another culture, you’ll also be supporting the Foundation’s efforts to keep your library district innovative and strong.

Tickets are available online at yourlibraryfoundation.org, or call 616-0586.
