One Read Celebrates "Circe" with Special Events
Every year the library encourages everyone to indulge in the joy of reading during the One Read. We feature a single title, offer programs based on the book’s themes, and host the author at a free event.
This year’s One Read title is “Circe,” and its New York Times best-selling author Madeline Miller will speak at the Library Center at 7 p.m. April 11.
“Circe” is Greek mythology full of family rivalry, palace intrigue, love, loss, vengeance and hope. Briefly: In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter, Circe, is born. She’s a strange child unlike her parents, so she turns to the world of mortals for companionship and discovers she possesses a power that can transform rivals into monsters.
“Gods and monsters aside,” Miller admits, “they are intensely human.”
You can check out the book or audiobook through thelibrary.org/catalog. Can’t wait on holds? OverDrive, at thelibrary.org/digital, has a link to a simultaneous-use copy of the e-audiobook.
