Death & Dying Series November 1-10 Reminds Us to Live Life to the Fullest
Many families are adopting healthier attitudes in dealing with topics of death and advance planning. That was evident at the library in recent years, when hundreds of people attended our series, Death & Dying, Conversations on End-of-Life Matters.
The series returns with new topics on Friday, Nov. 1 through Nov. 10 all at the Library Center. From pet death, to estate planning, to forensics, we'll have open discussions that can help alleviate our fears and remind us to live life to the fullest. And don't miss a special all-ages event on loss and comfort with children's author/illustrator Cori Doerrfeld at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 in the auditorium.
“We are eager to engage the community once again in these important conversations,” says staffer Sarah Jane Rosendahl, who coordinates the series. “We’ve had a very positive response to the programs offered in the past and those scheduled for the coming weeks. We love hearing from people about how much the conversations spawned from these programs are helping them, both personally and professionally.”
The series begins with Date Night with a Medical Examiner at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the auditorium. Chief Forensic Investigator Tom Van De Berg gives a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the Greene County Medical Examiner's Office.
Saturday, Nov. 2, features three events. The Dollars & Sense of Estate Planning is noon-2 p.m. in the auditorium. If you have property, retirement accounts or other assets, you may need to create an estate plan. Estate planning attorney Catherine E. Moore, CPA Krystal Creach and Library Foundation Development Director Melissa Adler will discuss estate planning, trusts and more.
Have you thought about how you want to be remembered? From 3-5 p.m. in the auditorium, two library staffers will present How to Write Your Own Obituary – a thought-provoking exercise at any stage of life.
At 7 p.m. in the auditorium, Dr. Albert Leonardo, medical director of Mercy Supportive and Palliative Care, will discuss end-of-life processes and medical care to provide a realistic picture of how we die as medical advancements offer to prolong our lives at any cost.
