Holiday Store For Kids Kicks off Saturday, Dec. 7, with Gifts They Can Buy for Others

It’s a tradition for many families in December: The Holiday Store for kids at the Library. It starts Saturday, Dec. 7.

If you have children, grandchildren or favorite nieces and nephews, this is one holiday shopping experience that’s fun, and can also teach them about gift giving and budgeting their dollars.

But mostly, it’s just fun. Children, ‘tweens and young teens love giving holiday gifts for family members, friends, teachers – even pets – that they’ve bought all by themselves. And the prices are kids-friendly: 25 cents to $10.

The Between Friends Gift Shop staff selects gift items to create “stores” inside the library branches. Children can shop by themselves with their gift list, or a family member can help, or a library volunteer will help them choose items and stay within their budget. Family members can wait outside the store while the children get help to pay for, wrap and tag their surprises.

Items include jewelry, mugs, toys, holiday ornaments, socks, slippers, wallets, watches, iPad cases, frames and more items for the guys and gals on everyone’s list. Proceeds from the Holiday Store support Library programs.

Holiday stores are at six branches, and several also plan Holiday Open House crafts, games and activities for kids.
