Municipal Christmas Tree 1923
"The Springfield Traction company will donate 4,000 round-trip [street]car fares to that number of children, who are expected to attend the municipal Christmas tree celebration next Sunday after noon at convention Hall, it was announced last night by Mrs. Nelle G. Burger, chairman of publicity for the event.
"The tickets, together with those entitling children to presents, will be distributed through the schools, so far as is possible, Mrs. Burger said. Children who miss getting their tickets of both kinds through this avenue can obtain them next Saturday only by applying at the Y.W.C.A. on South Jefferson Avenue.
"The scene of the celebration will be open… Sunday afternoon. From 1 to 2 o’clock music will be rendered by the Boy Scout Band, led by Prof. R. Ritchie Robertson, director of music in the public schools here, and through community singing, conducted by Mr. Robertson.
"Mrs. Burger urged last night that all those clubs which have not contributed, do so at once through Miss Julia Killbuck, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A." Republican December 19, 1923
