Death of Nathan Boone

Death of Col. Boone
"We take the following from the Springfield Advertiser of the 12th inst. [this month]

"Col. Nathan Boone, youngest son of Daniel Boone, died on Friday last, at his residence in this county, aged 76 years.

"In the war of 1812 he was appointed Captain of a Company of Rangers, in which position he served two or three tours.  In 1812, he was appointed Captain in the regiment of Rangers commanded by Col. Atchison, and with his regiment, went to and above the Cross Timbers on Red River.  In 1834, appointed Captain in the first regiment of Dragoons, and served in that regiment about two years, when, in consequence of ill health, he was compelled to resign, and seek some occupation more favorable to his constitution.  He had served some time, as Captain in the regiment -- was subsequently promoted to a Majority and at the time of his resignation, was Lt. Col. of the regiment.

"He made several expeditions to the head of the Arkansas river and upon the plains, during his military services.   He was anxious to enter service during the Mexican War, but on account of his age, he was kept at his old post.

"His life has been one of usefulness and true devotion to his country; and while we regret his loss as a friend, a citizen, and a patriot, we are thankful that such men did live, and participate in the struggles of our country, at a time when their services were needed."
