New Displays

There are two new displays in the Local History Department.

Wild Things have arrived in the department but don't worry we've pinned them to the wall in our display case. The "Wild Things of the Ozarks" are a group of monstrous legends that include the Gowrow, the Golly-wog, and the deadly Jimplecute, to name a few. Before venturing into the woods, arm yourself with the knowledge of where these Wild Things live...and what they eat.

If you need a field guide check out We always lie to strangers: tall tales from the Ozarks by Vance Randolph.

The St. Louis-San Francisco Railway has a long history in Springfield and Southwest Missouri. Local History and Genealogy explores this history with a display of objects, images and a new documentary video in an exhibit titled All Aboard: The Frisco Railroad.

For an in-depth history of the Frisco see The St. Louis-San Francisco transcontinental railroad: the thirty-fifth parallel project, 1853-1890 by H. Craig Miner.
